What are the top 10 modern day classic cars?

Monaco Grand Prix

All eyes turn to the French Riviera as the F1 circus returns to the glitz and glamour of Monaco for the fifth round of the F1 World Championship. Lewis Hamilton will be looking for back-to-back wins around the iconic street circuit and to extend his current championship lead. But, in Monaco anything is possible. Could Red Bull’s Max Verstappen or Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas trump the 7x world champion or could the resurgent Charles LeClerc cause an upset?

The Monaco Grand Prix has always been a fan favourite and a staple of the F1 calendar. With its cancellation last year due to the ongoing global pandemic, this was the first time since 1954 it did not feature.

Due to its location, the picturesque circuit has remained relatively unchanged throughout its history. The cars race at an average speed of around 140mph round iconic corners such as Sainte Devote, Beau Rivage, the Grand Hotel Hairpin and the Nouvelle Chicane, making a flying visit through the Casino Square and past the glamorous harbour.

The current season has been dominated by the epic battle between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. The pair traded wins in the opening two rounds in Bahrain and Imola but Hamilton has since claimed top spot in the following two races. His lead currently stands at 14 from his young Dutch rival. Fellow Briton Lando Norris sits in a very impressive fourth place in the standings and will be heading into the weekend buoyed after announcing he and his McLaren team have agreed a new multi-year contract.

It’s definitely worth taking a look at the McLaren cars this weekend, which have temporarily swapped their striking orange paint scheme for a retro inspired Gulf racing livery.

Conclusion

It’s far too difficult to pick a winner around Monaco, but the Red Bull cars have been consistently quick over recent years. Overtaking is also notoriously tough, so Saturday’s qualifying round will be crucial. Could this be advantage Max or could Lewis show everyone why he is the sport’s most successful driver?
